Backend Engineer, Repository Services (Ruby)
Job Description & Overview
Fully remote role on GitLab's new Repository Services team, which controls how code enters a repository and who can change it. Design backend services, APIs, data models and business logic in Ruby and GraphQL across GitLab.com, self-managed and Dedicated deployments. The team focuses on reliability: performance tuning, caching, rate limiting, testing, observability and on-call. You will work closely with the Gitaly team and use AI coding agents for well-scoped tasks.
Requirements & Key Qualifications
- Professional backend experience with Ruby and GraphQL
- Relational databases, SQL, data modelling, caching and performance
- Unit and integration testing, code review
- Experience with AI coding agents, or keen to learn
- Clear written English and comfort working asynchronously
